Allegations of Sexual Assault Against Shangela
New allegations have recently come to light, accusing RuPaul’s Drag Race star Shangela of multiple sexual assaults. These allegations follow a previous claim made by a former production assistant who accused Shangela of rape. The star, whose real name is Darius Jeremy Pierce, has now been accused by a total of five individuals of sexual assault or inappropriate sexual behavior while intoxicated.
Accusations and Legal Actions
The accusations include claims of sexual assault and unwanted sexual advances. One accuser, named Helmer, filed a police report against Pierce, alleging that he was sexually assaulted at the age of 20. These accusations have led to legal actions, including a civil suit filed by Daniel McGarrigle, another accuser who claimed that Pierce raped him in a hotel room.
In May 2023, Pierce was accused of raping McGarrigle, a former production assistant, after a crew party. Despite Pierce’s denial of the allegations, the civil suit was settled in February. Helmer, another accuser, reported being sexually assaulted after a night out in 2017. He only filed a police report in 2023 after learning of Pierce’s other allegations.
Details of the Allegations
The allegations detail instances of Pierce allegedly using alcohol to facilitate unwanted sexual acts. McGarrigle’s suit claimed that after a crew party, Pierce gave him drinks and shots, and then raped him in a hotel room. The suit also mentioned the use of a substance to incapacitate McGarrigle before the assault.
McGarrigle’s account includes Pierce initiating non-consensual sex without protection, which raises serious concerns about consent and safety in sexual encounters.
Professional Involvement and Lack of Response
Shangela, who co-hosts the show ‘We’re Here’ on HBO, has not yet responded to the new allegations. The accusations have raised questions about accountability and appropriate behavior, especially in professional settings.
