State Official Rejects Dems’ Plan to Sneak Biden’s Name onto 2024 Ballot
In an unexpected turn of events, a state official in Ohio has shut down the Democrats’ attempt at sneaking Joe Biden’s name onto the 2024 presidential ballot through an illegal loophole.
A lawyer representing the Democratic Party had proposed a “provisional” certification for Biden and Kamala Harris as candidates. However, Attorney General Dave Yost’s office quickly shut down this maneuver, stating that such a move “simply is not provided for by law.”
The law requires the Democratic Party to officially certify its president and vice-president candidates by August 7, 2024. Any alternative process is strictly prohibited, leaving the Democrats with a tight deadline to meet, especially since their convention to nominate Biden isn’t until the end of August.
Despite their focus on excluding President Donald Trump from the 2024 ballot, the Democrats overlooked crucial state requirements for certification, putting them in a difficult position. With the Ohio and Alabama deadlines quickly approaching, the Democrats must act fast to rectify their oversight.
Ohio’s Stand Against the Plan
The Ohio state decision was clear: “The secretary of state lacks authority to accept ‘provisional certifications’ from the Democratic Party.” To secure a spot on the 2024 general election ballot, the Democratic Party must officially certify its presidential candidates by the specified deadline.
Furthermore, the state proposed two potential solutions to the Democrats: either the state legislature amends the law or the Democrats reschedule their convention to meet the deadline.
A Fox News report described the Democrats’ plan as an attempt to “skirt” the law, highlighting the strained correspondence between Yost, Ohio Secretary of State Frank LaRose, and Democrats’ lawyer Donald McTigue.
In response to the proposed “provisional certification,” Yost’s office firmly rejected the idea, emphasizing the legal requirement for the Democratic Party to follow the established certification process.
Alabama’s Warning
Alabama Secretary of State Wes Allen also issued a warning to Biden’s campaign, citing the state’s statutory deadline for nominations on August 15. With the Democratic National Convention scheduled after this date, the Democrats must adhere to the legal requirements for certification.
It is essential for the Democrats to address these issues promptly to ensure Biden’s presence on the ballot in all 50 states.
