Liberals despise President Nayib Bukele, El Salvador’s savior

President Nayib Bukele of El Salvador turned the tables on his country, flipping it from one of the most dangerous spots on Earth to one of the safest. But guess what? Liberals aren’t feeling the love for this change. In fact, when Bukele won reelection by a landslide, the liberal media went into a tizzy, screaming that democracy was dead in El Salvador and that it had become a one-party carnival. Hold your horses though, because El Salvador ain’t Cuba. Bukele didn’t dismantle opposition parties or toss them into the slammer, nor did he hijack the media. He just did what he promised to do. He cracked down on the bad guys to make the country a safer place. President Bukele even boasted that El Salvador went a whopping 365 days without a single murder. While the exact numbers might be up for debate, there’s no denying that the murder rate plummeted by 70%, landing at a minuscule 2.4 per 100,000 in 2023 – second only to Canada in the whole Americas! For instance, after a nasty gang showdown that saw 87 unfortunate souls bite the dust in just three short days in 2022, Bukele sprang into action. He built the largest can behind bars in the country, the Terrorism Confinement Center (CECOT for short), with space for a whopping 40,000 gangsters. And he started filling it up. And what did the grateful citizens of El Salvador do in return for this newfound peace? They reelected him with a jaw-dropping 85% majority! But hold up, human rights groups from cushy Western nations with nary a thug in sight would rather wag their fingers at Bukele for his firm tack with suspects. But let’s get real here. Gang tattoos are like guilty verdicts stamped on skin – only gang members wear them. It’s a death sentence for non-gang folks to ink up. It’s practically a rite of passage to score a gang tat by committing a serious crime. Once you’re in, it’s like a full-time crime gig. So, bottom line, anyone with a gang tattoo is a criminal, plain and simple. In the land of the free, like the good ol’ U.S. of A, it’s not a crime to hang with a shady crew. To slap cuffs on someone, you gotta have proof they did the deed. But over in El Salvador, this system was getting abused left and right – repeat offenders and killers were walking out scot-free thanks to corrupt judges and prison guards. So Bukele put logic in the driver’s seat, nabbed the bad apples, and threw ’em in the slammer. He cared more about the rights of everyday folks – street vendors, business owners, kids in school, hardworking folks just trying to get by – than he did about coddling the crooks. The state of emergency he called in 2022 – and has kept on renewing – gave those crooks a taste of their medicine. It suspended their rights and bypassed the dodgy courts and justice system that had let them run amok for ages. With a whopping 75,000 gang members behind bars and 7,000 of ’em busted out, Bukele wasn’t playing around. Now, human rights groups are hollering about a whopping 78,000 “arbitrary detentions” since 2022. But come on, those folks were asking for it. Roughly 102,000 dudes are now enjoying free room and board in the country’s prisons, and it’s getting a little cozy in there at 148% capacity. Jails ain’t no picnic, but maybe – just maybe – avoid committing crimes and you won’t end up there? As for those 235 deaths in state custody, well, let’s get real – some criminals are just bad to the bone. And hey, it’s far better than having five times the innocent folks meet their maker if these gangsters were still on the loose. The cherry on top for the rights groups is Bukele’s New Ideas party bagging 58 of 60 seats in the legislature. They’re bellowing this makes El Salvador a one-party wonderland with way too much power. But lemme remind you – the people had a fair shot at voting for the same old broken system or a new era of law and order. And they went with the latter. Go figure! Folks like Gabriela Santos, big shot at the Human Rights Institute down in UCA, are clucking about how Bukele’s popularity shows just how tricky it is for some Central American countries to get their democracy grooves on. But seriously, where’s the beef? El Salvador’s democracy seems A-OK, and the critics just didn’t like how the cookie crumbled. Truth be told, most Salvadorians didn’t give a hoot about the US or right-leaning regimes when they cast their votes. And the haters gonna hate no matter what they choose! Over in Argentina, President Javier Milei is feeling the heat too – liberals are giving him the cold shoulder. But Milei’s got guts. He’s slashing red tape, battling debt like a champ, and even lighting a fire under school kids by calling a spade a spade – abortion is murder. Plus, he’s eyeballing getting the troops involved in taking on the gangs. So what’s the big lesson from El Salvador? Easy – nab those baddies, lock ’em up, and show the rest that crime just ain’t worth it. Keep the streets safe and let the good times roll. Oh, and remember, if a prez is all about law and order, expect some flak from the naysayers. And don’t even get me started on those snooty liberals who think they know what’s best for a country they barely knew existed!
