HBO Cancels ‘Our Flag Means Death’ After Fan Campaign

In a recent development, HBO decided to cancel the series ‘Our Flag Means Death,’ following the conclusion of its second season in October. As is often the case with canceled shows, a dedicated fan campaign emerged in an attempt to persuade HBO to renew the show. Meanwhile, the creator, David Jenkins, expressed his commitment to finding a new platform willing to embrace a comedy centered around gay pirates.

Despite efforts to secure a new home for the show, Jenkins took to Instagram to announce that ‘Our Flag Means Death’ would not be picked up elsewhere. Expressing gratitude towards fans for their remarkable support, Jenkins acknowledged the industry-wide recognition of their advocacy. The fundraising efforts, including billboards in prominent locations like New York and London, significantly aided the cast and crew in coping with the disappointment.

In his social media post, Jenkins reflected on the end of the road for the show and its dedicated fanbase. He conveyed optimism for future reunions and emphasized the enduring nature of the show’s impact.

The cancellation of ‘Our Flag Means Death’ marks another in a series of terminations by HBO. Alongside shows like ‘Rap Sh!t’ and ‘The Flight Attendant,’ HBO bid farewell to ‘Westworld’ after four successful seasons, a decision that caught the cast and crew off guard considering their readiness to conclude the series with a fifth season. Warner Bros. Discovery, the parent company, has been making significant moves lately, including the closure of Rooster Teeth and the delisting of titles published by Adult Swim Games.
